All in all after just playing the first game again I can definitely say that while below zero definitely has a few touch ups here and there the experience just aint as good as it used to beĮxactly. You'd think you would stop when the bar runs out but you keep gliding so it makes no sense and feels more like a bug.Īnd the new boost mechanic feels like it doesn't work because of how uneven terrain is. The new glide really ruins and momentum you can generate and worst of all it just drains your boost metre when falling while moving. Im not opposed to the new changes but its geared more towards vertical traver over horizontal. It felt really awesome and I barely escaped with my life. I remember on my hard-core playthrough having an unexpected encounter with a reaper only to be on the ropes with little to no escape only to go balls to the walls full charge grapple on to it boost straight at him release and slingshot myself right over him. Now I just run drill + default arm so I can pick things up, its a shame because it was the funnest thing to do in the first game. Its definitely better now if you dont have the boost upgrade or the grapple arm which is fine but its too the point where it makes me not use the grapple arm as it doesn't synergise well with the new thruster and the way it works. If you made it this far, what do you think? When travelling I either just sea truck it or oxygen boost it as god forbid I am not using the hot piece of garbage that is the below zero prawn suit. It sounds really small and miniscule, and it is, but it has ruined the prawn suit for me, and I just use it as a resource harvesting tool. The trade off is that for this new thruster system you ascend faster and easier and have a speed boost which seemingly does nothing. Being that this nerfs the heck out of the inertia/momentum that you can generate in turn reducing the distance and the speed in which you travel. First of all it drains yiur thruster metre: now that in of itself is fine, and makes sense, BUT when your thruster runs out you still continue to fall with a graceful glide? I cant tell if this is deliberate or a bug, either way it brings me to my next point. The big difference here is when you descend in a prawn suit the thruster is activated to slow your descent and give you better control, on paper this is okay, but there's 2 issues with it that stand out to me. Outside of being awesome for traversel it made the grapple arm worth the consideration over the other arms, a decision below zero strips away from you.īelow zero works a but different, and it drastically nerfs the prawn suit for in my opinion, no reason. Better yet combined with the thruster you could get some really good momentum, with the booster upgrade then you could reach speeds equal to a seamoth under the right conditions, ide argue it was balanced because you couldn't do it everywhere and it required some calculation of range and distance for grapple, more importantly it was satisfying and really awesome to do, especially when you got into the groove. In the first game if you weren't boosting in the air you started falling, makes sense right? Well, if you combined this with the grappling arm you could perform a pendulum like swing maneuver, this was awesome for Traversal as it gave the prawn suit much needed locomotion. I am specifically talking about the grapple arm thruster upgrade combo you have in both games. Compared to the first game the prawn suit has been nerfed dramatically, and to my knowledge it wasn't intentional. Thats quite the overecageratioj but hear me out. But while I'm glad to see its inclusion, the changes made to it really make it feel borderline unuseable. So the only reoccurring vehicle in below zero is the prawn suit, and im not mad about that, in fact, I am happy they kept it around.
